This is an modern version of "Bastien und Bastienne", a juvenile Singspiel of the young Mozart dating from about 1768. I have updated the plot, so that it is now set in the reception area of a girls’ magazine called "Nearly 18" (mostly read by 15-year-olds), and I have imported three arias from another Mozart work of the same period, plus a set of piano variations, included an extra character and a chorus of girls who read extracts from the magazine at appropriate moments.

While Tony and Tania have been going through an agonising break-up, the girls have been quietly carrying on with their reading. This is based on the theme and first variation of "Ah, Vous Dirai-je Maman" by Mozart
