original one step higher. Given the choice, The March King might have prefered to be known as The King of Operetta. With this overture he has it both ways. After a couple cadenzas, we get a happy tune and a ballad–requirements of any operetta overture–then an extended march-like section and a coda. All of the tunes return later in the operetta, with the the march-like one as a Tarantella.
