Segovia’s guitar transcription of this lovely carol has made the melody popular, though the original version is still little known outside Spain. I have translated it into English and arranged it for SATB choir and keyboard so that it can take its well-deserved place in the wider Christmas choral repertoire. Sing it tenderly and with a gentle lilt for the lullaby it really is. It would make an ideal complement to my setting of the Neapolitan ’Ninna nanna’ as part of a different Christmas concert.
