In the Shadow of Agony . . .
This piece is a somewhat impressionistic retelling of Jesus Christ's journey to the crucifixion from a disciple's point of view. It begins with a motive that symbolizes the weight of the cross and the slow, painful, and lonesome steps of the savior. You hear the crowds gather around, yelling insults as the piece draws to a climax. However, in the end, we are reminded of the pain and loneliness of the opening theme and the road to sacrifice.
