Originally part of his String Quartet #4, Dvorak later revised the piece as the Opus 40 Nocturne for Strings. The Op. 40 version is a tighter, more efficient use of the material in the quartet movement. The original key is B major, but in adapting the work for winds, I have transposed the piece into the friendlier key of B flat major. The piece does not present any overly difficult technical passages for the players, but will present challenges in phrasing, breath control, and establishing the "long line".
