To be sung in an intimate, soulful manner as befits the one of the most intensely emotional psalms. Written for a simple piano or guitar accompaniment.
The verses are sung by soloists or a small choir in a freer tempo, following the natural flow of the words.
The melody is dissonant against the chord structure in bars 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8, each dissonance resolving within the same bar. This is to echo musically the psalm's sense of yearning, being close to God yet distant from understanding of God's nature.
