Canzona 341 Plus is an expanded version of my original octet (minus the plus) with extra parts for additional instruments. It was designed to be performed by a combined Clarinet Quartet and Saxophone Quartet, but could also be performed by either ensemble as a stand-alone piece. The notion behind the work was to entertain a clarinet ensemble who enjoy the more sedate "classical" repertoire, whilst the saxophonists would rather be "Jazzing it up", and so the two ensembles have their wish within the one piece. Although it works best with both quartets combined, independent performances are quite possible.
United performances should be played antiphonally and some costuming might be add to the fun with the clarinets in formal attire, with those layabout good-for-nothing saxophones dressed in more hippy gear.
