Ralph Vaughan Williams’ tune Down Ampney for "Come down, O Love Divine" is especially popular for use at Pentecost and confirmations. This introduction and free harmonization for a final verse was written for a Whitsuntide festival service in 2011 in a Surrey village not far from RVW’s home in Dorking, and evokes the harmonies and style of his early compositions. A more extensive accompanimental setting for strings and organ is available upon request.
