This symphony requires some explanation. After the long and intense labours and struggle of writing my monumental one hour and fifty minute ninth symphony I wanted to unwind by writing a simple tenth that was totally free of intensity and complexity.
I thought about subtitling it "The Downright Tuneful", but in the end settled for no subtitle at all. Its four movements are for the most part cheerful and melodic.
Those who prefer something more serious should look elsewhere.
