The tempo mark is slow (Adagio), so expression and using subtle accel. and rit., over and above those marked is important to remove the risk of becoming ploddy. The deep bass plunges need a degree of lingering, but not too much, so you can reach up to the following notes safely. Similarly the arpeggios should not be too fast and in keeping with the overall flow. These features help to define the ‘Con molto espress’ in terms of tempo variances. The pedal use is shown only where I feel it is important for the sound to overlap. Pedal use through but is necessary but should not be over stated.
