Kumquat Jamboree, at its core, is an attempted exploration into the mind of the bipolar. Although the mania flux is quite mild, the entire piece features the smallest motif, an ascending minor second, as it takes us on a journey through its various highs in delights and dances in its search for identity. But every high has its low. When the light hearted nature ceases, its more wild nature, the same ascending minor second, quietly lurking in the background, quickly overwhelms us and takes us through its own untamed dances. When the spell is over, the wild nature disappears as quietly as it came and the mania returns.
