Het is in 1947 geschreven door Harrie Beex en op muziek gezet door Floris van der Putt, als loflied op Brabant en is een van de liederen die als het officieuze Noord-Brabants volkslied bekendstaan. Stijl en woorden in de tekst zijn bewust gekozen om de indruk van een oud volksliedje te geven.
