These sonatinas are arrangement of four of Johann Anton André’s 6 Leichte Sonaten (Offenbach: André, n.d.) for 4 hands at one piano. They adapt well for flutes in the original keys, as retained here. Flute 1 has the melodies, but I have rewritten the somewhat elementary under parts to be more sympathetic to flute players. André himself composed in many genres, as well as running the family music publishing business at Offenbach, where he lived and died. He is best known today, perhaps, as the ’father of Mozart research’, for his foresight and business acumen in purchasing a considerable number of Mozart’s manuscripts from his widow, Constanza.
