This arrangement was first performed a a duet by the composer and recorder soloist Julie Dean. It starts off as a bebop theme which, as the piece progresses, begins to sound increasingly familiar. In fact it strictly follows the harmonic structure of Faure's beautiful Pavanne from the very beginning.
The treble recorder part can be accompanied by either the double bass or the piano part. In the accompanying recording all three parts are heard together.
