Kalamatianos and Syrtos are the two most common type of circle dances found throughout the Greek islands and mainland. Each dance is based on a three step pattern. The 7/4 meter of kalamatianoi suggests one long step followed by two shorter steps in each bar. The pattern for syrtoi is reversed, two long steps followed by one short step.
