Here is a new, English-language version of the early 20th C. Japanese folk song, Hama-Chidori (literally translated, "Thousand Bird Beach"). Its timeless message crosses cultural boundaries, recalling sounds and sights of the sea as well as enduring parental love. Included with this arrangement are transliterated Japanese phonemes and a pronunciation guide. Original Japanese: 浜 千 鳥 あおい つきよの はまべ には おや を さがして なく とりが なみの くにから うまれでる ぬれた つばさの ぎんのいろ よるなく とりの かなしさは おやを たずねて うみこえて つきよの くにへ きえて ゆく ぎんの つばさの Transliteration from Japanese: HAMA-CHIDORI A-o-i tsu-ki-yo-no ha-ma-be ni-wa. O-ya wo sa-ga-shi-te na-ku to-ri-ga. Na-mi-no ku-ni-ka-ra, u-ma re-de-ru, nu-re-ta tsu-ba-sa-no, gi-n-no-i-ro. Yo-ru-na-ku to-ri-no, ka-na-shi-sa-wa. O-ya-wo ta-zu-ne-te, u-mi-ko-e-te. Tsu-ki-yo-no ku-ni-e ki-e-te yu-ku, gi-n-no tsu-ba-sa-no. Hama-chidori. Japanese Pronunciation Guide Vowels are sung as in Italian or latin: A = ah I = ee O = oh E = eh U = oo (e.g., ki = kee; gi = ghee [hard G, as in golf]; also, n = as in the "ng" part of the word "sing"–tongue on roof of mouth, buzz in nose)

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
