The lyrics are a metrical version of Psalm 7.
The music is the same as in my hymn "O Lord, Our God, What Have You Done?" which is also on Score Exchange.
Also on Score Exchange is an arrangement of this hymn with flute and piano/keyboard accompaniment. See related scores.
Text: O LORD, MY GOD (From Psalm 7)
O LORD, my God, I trust in You. Deliver me for now I am pursued By those who’d tear my soul like prey That lions kill and drag away. O LORD, my God, if I have sinned Against my enemies or my friend May enemies do what is just And lay my honor in the dust.
Arise in anger, LORD, for me And send Your judgment on my enemies. The congregation comes to You; For their sake, take Your throne and rule. O Judge of all, judge me I pray According to my righteous way. Give vindication, LORD, to me For I still have integrity.
O God, make all the violence end And stop the evil that the wicked send. Secure the just, for You are right And You know all our hearts and minds. My shield is God, Who judges well And saves the upright, but will tell His wrath to those who won’t repent. His sword is sharp; His bow is bent.
The wicked work to terrify. Conceiving evil, they give birth to lies. They dig a pit and then fall in. Their violence comes back down on them. I will give thanks where it is due: To Him Whose holiness brings forth truth. The praise I sing is to the Name Of God most high, the LORD who reigns.
