David of the White Rock by David Wheatley for Brass band
This Fantasie on the Welsh tune ’David of the White rock’ was written for the Bendix (Bristol) Brass Band, and the first public performance was given by them in the presence of the composer. Snatches of the melody are heard until the theme proper appears at different pitches, leading into a fugal closing section. A great deal of flexiblity/rubato is needed in performance. The piece is effective, and contrasting, without being overly difficult. Why not listen to the mp3 file (digitally generated) which will give a general idea of the piece and the tempi. Band parts for this piece are FREE, but you will need to purchase a score - enjoy!
