ALBUM LEAVES op103 for piano
These five pieces collected into a cycle Album Leaves were written at Keele (Staffordshire, UK) between July 1996 and July 1997 and could be defined as the music of solitude. They are written with no particular purpose or request, and came out as a result of exploration of some uncommon intervallic patterns (9+10, 1+1+11, 1+112 etc. in semitones). The pieces are very short, mostly quiet, subtle and fragile, and create an impression of some illusionary visions or dreams. The last piece is a selection of 9 contrasting musical fragments, and pianist has to chose his/her own path between the first and last. The duration of the cycle is between 8 and 10 min.
