A musical narrative inspired by the unforgettable visual pun (and title) offered by a SibMus competition a few years ago - an image of a lizard reclining on a baby grand piano: the very picture of a "lounge lizard." That image called to mind, for me, the following story:

It’s late night in the lounge. A Lizard, Mr. Scales, makes his customary grand entrance. All eyes turn to him, human eyes, every one. Mr. Scales greets the regulars, accepts the stares, the price of notoriety, the price of being different from the crowd. He’s escorted to his table, at which he’s the center of attention. Hangers-on and admirers approach him. But for all the attention and acclaim he gets he’s still just one Lizard on his own. But then, suddenly, he sees movement near the entrance, a shadow, a profile. It’s another Lizard! And not just another Lizard, but - as he can see in a flash - it’s THE Lizard. Mr. Scales, it’s time to make your move!

In the telling of the story, the sax explores some contrasting moods while the rest of the ensemble supports his "character" and helps set the scene.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
