The opening piece for a reading from J.A.Comenius’ Labyrinth of the World and Paradize of the Heart. The original lyrics is Martin Luther’s ’Erhalt uns Gott, bei deinem Wort’ and has a quite provocative passage in the first verse (typical Luther):

1. Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort Und steur des Papsts und Tuerken Mord, Die Jesum Christum, deinen Sohn, Wollen stuerzen von deinem Thron! (Lord, keep us with Thy word and steer murdering of pope and Turks who both want to overthrow Jesus Christ etc.)

2. Beweis dein’ Macht, Herr Jesu Christ, Der du Herr aller Herren bist; Beschirm’ dein’ arme Christenheit, Dass sie dich lob’ in Ewigkeit!

3. Gott Heil’ger Geist, du Troester wert, Gib dein’m Volk ein’rlei Sinn auf Erd’, Steh bei uns in der letzten Not, G’leit uns ins Leben aus dem Tod!

As far as I know it’s not commonly used in German speaking environment, however it is very popular in Czechia (Mocny Boze, pri Kristovu). The English translation is ’Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy word’, both wordings having no sense of Luther’s original strictness.

Premiered in June 2003 in Zelow, Poland

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
