I make no apology for asking for "beery" singing in a song about wine! If you recognise the rather polite French Christmas Carol "Quelle est cette odeur agreable", this will come as a surprise; however, Gay cites "Fill Ev'ry Glass" as being the original tune, so it's not at all sure which came first.

Important suggestion about instruments: in the first performance of this arrangement, we had a hurdy-gurdy which was tuned to the key of F. It made an exciting addition to the sound for this song.
