Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621): Dutch composer, organist, and teacher. He was not only a famous organist and one of the most influential and sought-after teachers of his time but also one of the leading composers, of vocal as well as of keyboard music. Some of his students included Samuel Scheidt, Jacob Praetorius, and Johannes Praetorius and Heinrich Scheidemann, who later held the four principal organists posts at Hamburg. So he was an important person in that era and for that particular milieu. The tune Est-ce Mars is borrowed from an air de cour (probably based on a popular tune) by Pierre Gudron. I made this arrangement to compliment my other two submissions here on - the amazing versions by Samuel Scheidt. Obviously, I'm crazy about this tune ? or just plain crazy. Why not try it? It's low carb.
