"Speak Evil" was composed over the course of three evenings in late January 2006 at the request of Doug Geers at the University of Minnesota. It was written for the NeXT ensemble which has the scoring of flute, violin, cello, piano, and percussion–augmented with electronics.
The electronic part was written and arranged by my colleague Josh Claussen. I can provide a CD of the electronics for those interested in performance.
The work is a series of interludes of electronics and instrumental statments–the electronics building on the ideas set forth in the opening. It should be played fast and, as the title suggests, played evil!
