This combination of bright latin and swing feels within a straightahead hard bop style was conceived intuitively but analysis revealed a hidden harmonic game: the melody notes over the Ab7 chord resolve successively to the 13th, #11th and 9th, "calibrating" towards a gradual reduction in tension; hence the title. The exciting and richly inventive solos kindly provided by tenor saxophonist Harald Gundhus and trumpeter Mika Mylläri represent a minor bit of scorchmusic.com history: the first time that users have made a “guest appearance” as improvising soloists in another user’s file. A piano solo may be added at a later date.
