I have already been privileged to collaborate with Dragana Petkovic and Biljana Krstic, from Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro, in producing Piano Exercises & Pieces for the Elementary Music School. We have been delighted with the response which a number of solos and duets from this book of teaching pieces has already received at PRB Music.

Dragana is also a composer in her own right, and this is a typically Slavic setting of the Kyrie Eleison, sung in Serbian, and making good use of the deep bass notes so characteristic of the style. The accompanying picture shows Dragana (centre) with the US Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, at a recent presentation for the launch of Piano Exercises & Pieces for the Elementary Music School.

Tragically, Dragana (born 1969) died suddenly in March 2007 and, whilst I didn’t have the honour of meeting her in person, I’m sure that she would like her memory to live on through her music and pictures on this site.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
