This is a prelude to an opera i might write, it is based on a play by a Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, "Dowerless Girl". The play is about a young countess who is poor, she needs to marry someone to keep her status, someone who is rich. The love of her youth interfears, her lover abandons her and an angry fiancee kills her at the end. I used the last scene in my Dramatic Cantata.
