Duncan was principal Bass there at the time. The first performance took place in Amsterdam the following year and was conducted by Kees Bakels. The concerto, which is in four movements, makes huge technical demands on the soloist. It is scored for 2 Oboes, 2 Horns, Harpsichord doubling Celeste and Strings.
