Johannes Ockeghems three-voice rondeau Fors seulement formed the basis of at least 30 secular pieces and five masses in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. These three anonymous settings are taken from a set of five Netherlands partbooks dated 1523. Each of them uses the top line of Ockeghem’s original. Only one small adjustment has been necessary to make the pieces suitable for modern recorders. I have indicated musica ficta rather sparingly, and players may feel the need to raise the seventh at some cadences.
