The first movement starts with a simple "bluesy" motive played by a solo clarinet which uses the pitch class set (0,1,4). The melody based on this motive alternates with an expressive melody initially played by the first violins. The other woodwinds and strings provide coloristic effects. The middle section is sort of a big band type of music and then the material in the 'A' section returns.
This is an orchestrated version of my chamber piece of the same name.
