To best project the intimate, personal mood of the piece (an individual praying), aim for a very lyrical, sonorous, melodious, “singing” tone quality. It is preferred that the piece be performed in large spaces, where plenty of resonance and reverberation is present. It is also preferred that the performer is situated either out of sight of the audience or in sight but in a semi, or fully-darkened auditorium (in later case, performer may want to use a stand light). Within reason, all rests and tempi in the piece may be slightly stretched or compressed, as seem appropriate by the performer. All long notes that terminate in rests should be released “into space” (avoid “choking” sound).
