As written, each bassist plays a short improvisation between phrases, with the last few given to duos and a trio. But all three can improvise together in any of these interludes. The piece can also be performed without solos.
The peculiar title amalgamates the first three letters of the last names of the musicians who premiered the piece in Toronto in 2005, Jason Hammer, Victor Bateman, and Michael Morse. Many thanks to Jason and Victor for their marvelous playing, and as well to superb bassists Rob Clutton, Michael Herring, and Dave Choukroun, who are equally keen ensemble partners.
