This work is a tribute to the musicians who died on the Titanic. It consists of a group of variations in the style of the light music that they played, and the music that they would have liked to play. It is imagined that they continue to play as the ship sinks, and the variations are duplicated in an atonal style, which leads to a huge climax as the ship hits the bottom of the sea , after which the work ends with the peaceful return of the theme.
