Frank Bridge was born in Brighton. He went on to study composition with Stanford at The Royal College of Music. He had a succesful playing career playing viola with several respected string quartets before concontrating on composition. At one time Benjamin Britten was a private composition pupil of Bridge, an influence he would later mark with his own composition based on a theme by Bridge.
