The Rag is scored for two pianos and is based on a theme written by a close friend. The piece is minimalistic in genre and amalgamates Baroque (the Bach-like opening figure) and Modern Jazz (right-hand syncopated rhythm) styles. Each piano initially acts as a solo instrument with one echoing that of the other. As the piece progresses the two voices become conflicted as one attempts to dominate the other. The piece ends with both instruments compromising their dominance to become equally important voices.
