This is an orchestral version of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 1 in F minor. The idea of transforming this work into an orchestral piece came both from Beethoven's piano writing style, which displays a great deal of almost "orchestral" ideas, and from the sonata's form itself. When orchestrated, this piece becomes a small symphony in four movements. This version was arranged following Beethoven's orchestration style, specially of his first two symphonies. It is set for an early romantic orchestra: two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets in Bb, two bassoons, two horns in F-C basso, two trumpets in F-Eb, timpani in F-C, and strings.
This orchestration was premiered on May 14th, 2022: cond. Daniel Cuéllar-Trujillo, Iberacademy Youth Orchestra, with special guests from the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra and the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra; Auditorio Fundadores, EAFIT University, Medellín, Colombia.
