This minimalist string quartet uses only four notes throughout the piece: C, E flat, F sharp and A. It fully exploits the richness of these four notes and of the string instruments’ technical and expressional capabilities. In order to be able to have the open strings’ harmonics, the second violin should be tuned in F sharp –D-A-E and the viola in C-G-E flat-A.
