I. Largo serioso Vstupní věta čtyřdílného celku má působit jako velkolepé otevření dramatické scény. Cembalo zahajuje grandiózním, takřka varhanním zvukem. Postupně se pak hudba projasňuje a odhmotňuje, až se vytratí v nadpozemských výšinách.

Opening movement of the four-part work should make an impression of a spectacular entrance of a dramatic scene. Harpsichord commences with monumental sound, like majestic organ. The music then gradually lightens and brightens till it fades away at ethereal height.

II. Animato Tato věta má povahu scénického příběhu se vzrušujícím dějem. Barvitou vyprávěcí linii tu dramaticky vyhrocují kolize kontrastních hudebních charakterů - výrazových protipólů. V průběhu se střetává sarkasmus rychlých staccatových sledů, nostalgie statického klidu, hrozivé tajemno hlubinných temnot i vznosný patos.

The character of this movement is a scenic tale with an exciting plot. The vivid storyline is dramatically escalated by the clashes of the contrasting musical characters – expressional opposite poles. In the course of the movement the sarcasm of the fast staccato sequences is confronted with the nostalgia of the static calm, terrifying mystery of deep darkness and lofty pathos.

III. Lento Pomalá věta má připomenout typický hudební projev cembala známý z historie. Jádrem této jednolité věty je prostá jednohlasá melodie. Ta se postupně rozvíjí v polyfonních strukturách s imitačními postupy a typickými dobovými idiomy včetně příznačné ornamentiky. Věta se uzavírá efektem rezonujících strun navozujícím pocit úplného rozplynutí tohoto hudebního obrazu do ticha.

The slow movement should remind of the typical speech of harpsichord known from history. The core of this seamless movement is a simple monophonic melody. This is gradually developed in polyphonic structures with imitating advancements and typical period idioms including symptomatic ornaments. The movement is concluded by the effect of resonating strings making an impression of total dispersion of the musical picture into silence.

IV.

At the finale the serious expressional shades of whole work are supplemented with lightweight fast music. After the pensive central part this passage returns again and optimistically concludes the whole work.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
