Captured by pirates reluctant to start
They kept him on when he could read a chart
Then his captain Hal Davis was waylaid
Going on the island of Pricipe
Elected captain Brat Roberts then stayed
Went back ashore and conducted a raid
And then they killed them if they were a man
Then took the loot they could carry by hand
This is the tale of the pirate Black Bart

It turned out he had a fighting heart
He did capture more than 400 ships
Merchant ships just trying to make their trips
Until H. M. S. Swallow did eclipse
Black Bart thus bringing his apocalypse
Grape shot did pierce the pirate Black Bart's neck
Wrapped in a sail he was tossed from the deck
This is the tale of the pirate Black Bart
He was a good pirate right from the start
He plundered many ships that was his art
He died in a battle with a fighting heart
