I had the idea of creating a gentle, legato, solo piece for Euphonium which would be slightly harder than it sounds. The main challenge to the soloist is to play the octave intervals, as well as 6ths and 7ths, sostenuto with no loss of intonation. On the last note the aim should be to fade it out.
This is an arrangement of the solo as a brass quintet with Euph or other Bb solo. The score shows the basic parts, but I have also included various options so a range of ensembles can play it.
I created the piece during a week I was suffering from gout and I enjoyed playing it during the first week in the first Coronavirus lockdown - hopefully you can enjoy the piece in less trying circumstances!!
