The traditional English folk song - ’The Farmer’s boy’ - is attributed to Charles Whitehead (born 1792). It is a story about his brother-in-law - Thomas Fownes Smith (born 1807) - who as a young boy turned up at his parents farm. Many years later Thomas ended up running the farm and marrying the late couple’s daughter, Sofia. This is a setting for Male Voices with piano accompaniment where different voices sing the part of the characters that appear in the story.
