It is unclear whether or not Carolan wrote this. The Princess Royal may originally have been an English morris dancing tune. When it is played in that tradition, it is often played in a major key. My mother, Dianne, and father, Stewart used to play this as a duet with two concertinas. They played it in a medley with Abegail Judge, another tune by Carolan.
