The 1812 overture was written to celebrate the Russian victory over Napolean in 1812. The finale includes the nationalistic Russian national anthem and became one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular pieces. The duet version takes the finale and keeps on the most critical parts. It is fun to play, and slightly pokes fun at the grandiose version by it’s compactness.
