“Suite: Tercer Mundo” – written in 1977, is a work for Flute, Recorder, Xylophone, Congas, Claves, Güiro, Glass or Metal Windchimes, Cabaza, Tablas and two amplified Guitars. The instrumentation and concept of the piece reflects a sound world that inspires to reach a non- European musical realm. It explores and confronts the relationships between Third World identity and personal journeys within a complex social and musical canvas. The work hopes to provide the framework for inner exploration through sounds without tempo or traditional musical structure, notes without boundaries nor argument. It constitutes five individual movements which can be performed separately or in any order: they are “Emancipación”, “El Olor de la Tierra”, “Baile Negro”, Jubileo” and “Mito”.
