This is the original version of the introductory choir of 1967 plus one of 1972, about which I wonder why I rejected them when reviewing and completing the work in 1987. The piece is written in F major but modulates to C major and ends in A major, because the next following section would start in that key.
Should violas and double basses not be available (as happens often with school orchestras), then the Violin III and Violoncello II parts may be used instead.
