I was inspired by Lee Evans� remark at the MTAC Convention in 2007 that a rock musician who didn�t have classical training told him to �feel the keys�. It struck me how basic that idea is and that the impulse to �smush� the keys, especially the black ones, is a natural one. I thought it would be easy to teach a student a composition using the two black keys as a natural starting point.
The omission of time signature and bar lines is intentional for the purpose of getting students familiar with non-traditional notation techniques.
