These two short preludes were written when a student at the RCM. The first is essentially in a late romantic, narrative style, with shifting chromatic harmony, in B minor. The second, faster prelude in C minor, recalls the essentially ’spiky’ style of Prokofiev. Both were originally intended as composition exercises, but make a change from the more overtly tuneful (hopefully!) music I prefer to write. Either piece could stand on its own, as they are thematically unrelated.
