This little piece was completed by Faur� (as inscribed at the end of the manuscript with his signature) on �14 juillet 1898� - Bastille day. Perhaps surprisingly, it is one of only two original works by Faur� for flute and piano, the other being the Fantasie, Op. 79. Both were composed for the Paris
Conservatoire's annual Concours as test pieces, the Fantasie as a virtuoso work, the present Morceau as a sight-reading exercise.
