This is the third movement of a set of variations original written for a specific recital, in a vaguely romantic idiom. It should have the feel of the two instruments playing in different time signatures against each other. The them appears in movement six: the idea of putting the theme at the end was to give the audience some fun in trying to identify the well know tune! There are a few "red herrings" thrown in along the way.
