This is the first movement of my first composition for wind band. The main theme (after the introduction) is inspired by a lesser known leitmotif from Wagner's "Die Walkyrie" in Act III (the "heroic Seigfried" motif). The title "Spiral" is intended to depict the sometimes chaotic and cyclical problems we seem to face daily. The obligatto winds in the initial statement, and the running eighths through the ensemble in the recapitulation are intended to represent this. The tempos are still not coming through. I entered meter numbers where the main changes occur. Comments and suggestions welcome, this is my first attempt at a full ensemble work.
